@pelagikat These days they're mostly a list-building device for campaigns, aimed at fundraising.

@PaulfromOz No, me either. But a lot of people seem to think they make a difference.

@pelagikat I think it can locally if you think your local member of parliament is precarious enough on votes to take notice of a whole stack of names in her/his electorate - but it needs to be combined with local rag press coverage and more.
